My name is Jamya. I am 4 years and 4 months old and I have been a resident of Soi Dog, Phuket, Thailand for 4 months now. While we are safe here, I worry that we may get forgotten about. I have heard of some dogs staying at the shelter for years and I truly hope that does not happen to us.
I came to Soi Dog with my brother Arturo because our owner abandoned us. We have absolutely no idea why. We are such fun, pretty and kind dogs. Sometimes we ask each other what we may have done wrong but we cannot think of anything. It just seems so unfair.
We tried our very best to survive on our own, but as we were used to living with people who looked after us, it proved very difficult. The local street dogs were mean to us and we did not stand a chance against them. Then the local people got fed up with us hanging around and threatened to kill us with poison! I have heard that this is a horrible way to die.
The two of us live in the same run and we get on well in there, although I am a little more timid than my brother. I tend to hide in one of the concrete tubes at the back. I am smaller than most of the dogs here and I don’t fancy standing up to them. When a kind person comes to visit, being fussed over is the best! I have a sweet smile and the people here laugh as I get all excited and jump up for a cuddle. They tell me I have a lovely personality.
It is easy to see we used to live in a home as we are so affectionate. Thank goodness Soi Dog came to our rescue. I cannot bear to imagine what would have happened to us otherwise.
Adopt a Thai Dog Rescue
Every week Soi Dog sends animals rescued in Thailand to adopters around the world, including North America and Europe. The dogs in our Thailand shelter urgently need loving homes and all will make excellent pets.
Soi Dog has the perfect pet for you, whether you’re looking for a puppy or a mature animal. That’s because we typically have more than 200 rescued dogs and cats of all sizes being fostered at the shelter. We rescue dogs from the dog meat trade as well as injured and sick stray dogs off the street.Thai dogs make extremely loyal and loving pets, particularly dogs saved from tough lives on the streets who seem to understand they’ve been given a second chance. Learn what’s involved in adopting one of these dogs on our website: www.soidog.org .
If you can’t adopt an animal from Thailand, you can still help them! Learn how you can be a “flight volunteer” or how you can sponsor a dog at Soi Dog’s shelter. Visit our Canada Soi Dog Showcase here on Furever for more information.
