The Sport Detection Workshop to teach “nosework” by Karin Apfel, DogSmarts is open to ALL dogs, even puppies and seniors! No prior experience or training necessary for either you or your dog. Instructor Karen Apfel of Dogsmart Training uses fun games based on detection training for police and detection dogs. This type of work helps shy or nervous dogs build confidence. It can help exuberant dogs build self-control too.
In order to participate, dogs will need to wear a harness or flat collar and have a six foot leash. We ask you to bring plenty of soft treats – cut them up small – and your dog’s favourite toy if they are motivated by play more than treats. Also being a water dish, a dog crate and a chair. Water, coffee and snacks are included in the workshop fee.
Please note – the workshop capacity is limited to 16 DOGS only, but we can have an unlimited number of auditors (auditors are people without dogs that observe the sessions). Those who are participating in working spots may audit other sessions at no charge.
