The latest happy tail from SPIN is a heart-warming example of the reason rescue groups exist, and the value they hold for dogs and people in need. Babet the poodle mix came to SPIN by way of another rescue. It had no more foster homes available and reached out to SPIN asking if the team could help this Maltese-Poodle mix who was in a desperate situation. SPIN had a foster home open and was able to take her. Babet’s story of how she came to rescue was one of the sad ones. She was brought to Canada with her loving mom, but the two gals found themselves in an abusive home. Babet was forced to live outside all year; she was only allowed inside into a room where she was isolated and alone. Her spirit deteriorated, and at the same time she was suffering a loss of eyesight and hearing. In order to get her help, Babet’s mom was eventually got her to rescue.
Happy Tail Dog Rescue for Babet
Safely ensconced with her foster family, Babet slowly learned how to trust, play, relax and love again. And as all good rescue groups do, Babet was taken to the vet to be thoroughly checked out. The vet found a lump, likely a tumour. By that point, the rescue had received an application for Babet’s adoption. SPIN wrote her potential adoptive family and explained her medical situation, offering to take on the vet bills and giving them the chance to decide afterward whether or not they wanted to proceed with adopting Babet. The prospective adopters responded with the following note:
“I talked to my husband and we’re both in agreement. We would like to adopt Babet anyway. We will have our vet check her out. Our last dog had a few bumps, a big one on her neck, for several years. No matter what it ends up being, we would like her to live her last years, however many, up here. We are used to dealing with older dogs and their health issues. We’ll just go with it, no matter what. I’m so glad you contacted me because I was going into serious doggie withdrawal. This also gets my husband out of trying to figure out what to get me for Christmas because I told him Babet was my gift of choice. He’s relieved.”
So Babet happily moved on to her new furever family, with the best wishes and happiness of the season from the whole team at SPIN!
