Bayne is a high energy Doberman Pinscher German Shepherd Dog cross that is just one year old, still a puppy with lots of puppy character! Bayne knows basic commands such as sit, down and come and has fantastic recall when he is off-leash. We are working on the “stay” command. He is a very loving dog that looks at you with his soulful eyes and his hard to get mad at. He loves to cuddle at night and has to be touching his person when he is sleeping.

This dog likes being outdoors, is very quiet (does not bark at passerbys) and has been seen entertaining himself by playing “catch” by himself or playing with other toys. He does require some supervision as he does tend to dig (working on correcting this) when bored.

Bayne loves other animals and enjoys playing with cats and dogs. He does need some work on the leash, and we are working on his pulling. While on walks or runs he does not acknowledge other dogs or people and is just happy to be out.

Adoptable Doberman Pinscher German Shepherd Puppy

He needs a loving family with patience and time to properly train him. He does not like the crate much yet, and is left home roaming free in the house with two large dogs and two cats for nine hours from Monday to Friday. He does have some separation anxiety that the other animals are helping with; however, he does have the occasional “accident” inside the house.

Bayne is not food aggressive and lets other animals eat in piece. Currently working on his manners to curtail things such as jumping up on people and mouthing. When Bayne mouths and jumps up on people, he is asked to go to “bed” – he then goes to his dog bed or is gently guided there with a toy.

doberman german shepherd pup

Like many young dogs his age that have not had the advantage of consistent training, Bayne would do well with a family that has the time and patience to continue the training he is now receiving, as well as other animals to keep him company. Kids in the family would be best if older than 10 years of age.

Intelligent, loving and sweet, Kitty Girl is a one-year old adoptable American Bulldog cross. She’s a lady dog with a goofy sense of play and will charm you with her honest and open affection. Kitty Girl does well with her caregiver and will bond, trust and take direction easily. She will allow other dogs into her world through the strength of this relationship but is reluctant to do so until she understand the rules and dynamics. She will respond well to respectful and clear guidance. She is an incredible dog who will thrive with a seasoned owner of strong-minded dogs.

When Beth contacted us to home pet sit her trio of Huskies, we jumped at the chance! Well, actually Lyric did most of the jumping. Here’s how we came to care for these heavenly huskies over the holidays this year.
LR_Lyric_P1230756 laughing huskies pet sit

Our first meet and greet took place here at Furever Home Pet Care in Niagara Falls. We specifically asked Beth to visit because we wanted to “husky-test” the yard fencing. We’ve had larger medium sized dogs come and stay no problem, but we all know that the husky dog breed are known for being escape artists, climbers and high jumpers.  Plus one of Beth’s current huskies is a foster dog whom she has known for a shorter time. Always best to test the new setting.

husky pet sitting

Sure enough, Lyric the curious one wanted to come see what we were doing as we introduced her brother Rusty to our resident dogs. What, a mere gate? No problem, up and over she went! So, good to know – our front gate is NOT husky proof for a determined dog!

huskies pet sit adventure

So we arranged to care for these gorgeous dogs at Beth’s own home, a pet sitting arrangement that would see them comfortable and cared for in the setting we know is safe and secure.  We took the time to visit Beth’s home before the actual date as well, just so we knew the lay of the land, and puppies had another chance to say hi.

When the date came, we were laughing! Smooth as can be, and the dogs were perfectly happy to show me exactly where all the treats are, where they like to chew their great big bones, and all the crazy husky things they can do with a stuffy toy (which turns out is mostly throwing it over their own heads then ripping it to shreds – d’oh!)

huskies pet sit adventure

Huskies at Home

We spent a little more time taking photos of Aladin, “Al” for short, because he is the foster dog in the house. Beth rescued him from Toronto Humane Society where he had languished far too long. He was (mistakenly) assessed as being too aggressive. Besides being a little camera shy at first, can’t say that I agree with them on that at all.

huskies pet sit

creampuff huskies pet sit

Mind you, he has had the benefit of wonderful care, behavioural guidance, good husky siblings and a great diet since coming into Beth’s home, so its not all that surprising that he is a big creampuff.

“Big” as in “as big as me” big, and “creampuff” as in the fact that his coat is as think as a polar bears, plus he wants little more than your company. Once he’s met you, he’ll lean right in and ask for the pets, or even roll over and give up the big fully belly for serious rubs.

Many thanks to Beth for allowing for some quality time with the big guys. It was amazing to watch some of the same doggie body language, habits and characteristics of my wee ones writ large on these three heavenly Huskies!

Toby was found as a stray before coming into Freedom Dog Rescue’s care. Toby is a female 1.5 year old Rottweiler Boston Terrier mixed breed dog. She is currently being fostered in an apartment.

happy adoptable Rottweiler mix

Adoptable Rottweiler Mix

Toby is a bundle of energy! Toby loves to jump up and greet you at the door to give you plenty of kisses. She loves long walks, runs, bike rides, anything that keeps her active. She also enjoys car rides and enjoys keeping you company. She likes to take control while walking, however with some patience she walks alongside you and maintains pace. She loves sprinting around and as a result she isn’t allowed to be off leash yet, but is fine in fenced-in areas.

She knows some tricks to show off to anyone who’s willing to watch – she can sit, stay, lie down, and give a paw. As a quick learner she is so eager to add more tricks to her repertoire.

adoptable Rottweiler mix dog

Toby gets along with most dogs. Because she likes to assert her dominance with other dogs, initially some caution should be taken to ensure Toby makes friends.

She loves to cuddle with you and will always make sure where you are going is okay for her. Toby is on the cusp of being house trained and getting better every day. She dislikes when she is left alone in her crate and cries sometimes, but that is only because she loves and misses you so much.

Toby is a happy and healthy Rottweiler mix breed dog looking for that active family to show how much love she has to offer.

Farm and Horse Care Pet Sitting Services

P1220311_Rose_Sawyer_LR

Furever Home Pet Care offers pet sitting services to companion animals that need to stay in their own home while their family is away.  Some of our most challenging and rewarding experiences with pet care have come from spending time on farms, with animals that don’t quite fit under the kitchen table. Horses, Vietnamese potbellied pigs, a goat, and little ones like rabbits, ducks and cats have all been cared for in their home and barn settings.

Judith cared for our horses and barn cats a couple of times while we were away at weekend horse shows. Her communication was great, and we felt very comfortable leaving them knowing that we would get an update from each visit. All were quite happy upon our return. We would definitely use Judith for farm sitting again in the future! – Beth, Rose Farms

Judith was phenomenal with my dog! She not only took care of Penelope but she loved her in my absence. I could see she cared just from all the pics she sent me while she was watching her. Honestly, I would never get this kind of service with any kennel. I highly recommend Judith. – Laurie H

Judith is a wonderful sitter. She has responded to all our questions and received us upon arrival with a warm smile. During our visit of the Falls she texted us updates and pictures of Leo, who looked happy. Judith knew that we would have a long car trip ahead and even walked Leo, before we picked him up, so he could move around outside of the house/garden. She made some cute pictures of Leo and handed us over the prints. I think this gesture was heart warming and really shows, that she not only cares for all the pets but also feels with the pet parents, when we have to leave them for whatever reasons with pet sitters. We thank Judith for having Leo staying with her. And highly recommend her as a sitter. – Olga D

One of the best things about Furever Home petsitting is the opportunities it presents to play with photos. Most dogs love the attention, and while we don’t always host pups that love to dress up, Georgio did not mind donning a hat or two for our adorable maltese photo shoot!

photos adorable maltese

When Georgio first arrived, he made a beeline to the little dolly bed we’ve restored and made comfy for our visiting dogs. What a natural poser, I didn’t even have to ask for this one.  By doing it, he let me know he was game for some more.

Adorable Maltese Photos

Sometimes puppies who come to stay with us in dog boarding can be a little anxious at first. So I took Georgio on a car ride to the farm when I went to care for the horses and other creatures.

adorable maltese photo shoot

Plus the farm is a fun setting for photos. Georgio had no problem modeling a Farmer Dog look-alike cap and perched on top of a hay bale for this one.

farmer maltese adorable

On the way back, he was totally chilled out! Which makes sense, his family had driven all the way from Boston to visit Niagara Falls. He’s obviously a seasoned car traveller.

chilled out adorable maltese

Since Georgio’s family had come to visit for the US Thanksgiving holiday, I was going for a pilgrim look with this little hat. But its actually green with Irish clover on it, so we cheated a bit and made it black and white. The photo actually looks more “top hat” than “pilgrim hat,” but what the heck, its one more adorable maltese photo from this little pro.

Georgio’s family came to us through DogVacay, a network of petsitters all over the US and Canada. Its a handy service for those who travel with their furry family members but find themselves with the odd night or location without dog-friendly accommodations. Many travellers call on us to petsit or board for a day while they visit some attractions or see the sights here in the Falls. You can find our listing on DogVacay.com right here

We are happy to introduce our best calendar ever – the 2016 Big on Beagles Calendar, 12 months of rescued howlers! Just in time to support your favourite Beagle Rescue for the HOWLidays!  The photos are stunning and the rescue stories truly inspirational.  This year’s calendar was designed by BOB supporter Ben Sanderson, to whom we give our sincere thanks. And special thanks to my long-suffering editor and fellow Board Member, Kelly for cracking the whip and making it happen!

Support Our Beagles Calendar

Big on Beagles focuses on the rescue of senior dogs, senior Beagles with chronic health issues, those requiring emergency surgery, and then also those suffering from emotional trauma. They’re really the hard cases that are coming primarily out of shelters. We’re contacted on a regular basis about dogs like this, and we have this mission not to let an old Beagle end its life in a shelter circumstance. We want them to be in a loving home for whatever quality time they have left.  Our 2016 Calendar Drive is just one way we raise the necessary funds to help more dogs in need.

I very much like my farm pet sitting client Beth – she is warm and gregarious and her passion for all pet creatures comes across in every conversation we have.  And at the same time, I love it when she goes away! Only because that’s when I get to spend extra time with her menagerie of wonderful pets.

Fam Pet Sitting Plus

From hundreds of pounds big to just a few ounces, her pet family includes fourteen animals and six species. Perhaps one of the most amazing aspects is the fact that they all get along with one another. Not just “get along,” mind you, but actually like to hang out together. The barn cats think nothing of sleeping up close and personal with the horses; I’ve seen pictures of the Rottie who nuzzles the tortoise gently, and the inside cats may think that Flash the fish is just a form of television – look but no channel surfing!

Of course they all take their cue from Beth and her husband Mark, who are their benevolent leaders. Their farm is a haven for every pet here, and likely some that don’t actually live here! Apparently the neighbour’s dog thinks the barn cat food dish is an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Here is our most recent collection of pet portraits from our farm pet sitting adventure this month.

Can you believe this little fish had not yet been named either? We helped out and called him Flash.  Cheddar and Lync are the inside cats.

Horses at the Farm Pet Sitting

So far, each time we have been farm pet sitting for Beth and Mark it’s been because Gracie is off doing a horse show. So we haven’t had the privilege of caring for her before this trip. She’s here on the farm and has a bit of a cold, so we’re sure to make sure she stays warm and takes all her medicines.

And of course our buddy Sawyer is up to tricks, being his gorgeous self.
