Samsam is a little Chihuahua from California, rescued from a high kill shelter just hours before he would have been euthanized. Approximately 2 years old and less than 10 pounds, neutered and up to date on all vaccines, he’s looking for a place that is quiet and without kids. He is nervous dog so a place that is low-energy where he can feel relaxed is key to his well being. His favourite pasttime is cuddling!
Save Our Scruff rescue founder Laura Bye reports, “The shelter he was saved from euthanizes 278 small and medium sized dogs every day; newly rescued dogs are given only 3 days to live at the shelter if left unclaimed. If any one dog shows anxiety, timidity, or aggression, the shelter labels them “rescue only.” That means they are not even made available to the public for adoption.” Since SamSam originally came from an abusive home and was indeed very timid, he was on the euth list.
California Chihuahua Rescue
California is one of the states with an extremely high number of Chihuahuas who need homes, and are second only to pit bulls in the number of dogs euthanized every year.
He has been in Canada for approximately 2 months. Happily, since SamSam has been in the foster care of SOS volunteer Chris, he has warmed up a lot, and gained confidence. Once Sam feels comfortable with a person he is such a cuddle buddy! Chris has done a great job of helping him trust others and not be so anxious. Foster mom Chris and SamSam are located in Toronto.
The recent SOS rescue adoption event at SPAW may be the turning tide for this little guy; he received lots of interest and just may have found a home.
I dream about going to a home where I can feel relaxed. Preferably, no kids making me feel uneasy but maybe a low energy cat or dog friend to hang out with. – SamSam Chihuahua
