Hi ! My name is Yumi which means ‘beautiful’ in Japanese, and I am indeed a beautiful red, standard girl, with a touch of dapple on my ears. I am 8 years old, and I was surrendered by my owner to a animal shelter until the nice folks at Canadian Dachshund Rescue Ontario rescued me.
Don’t let my age fool you! I am a perfect mix of a grown up dog with the spunk of a puppy when it’s time to play! I l love to chase balls, play with squeaky toys, and go walks (especially when it is warm outside); in fact, I regularly walk an hour + with my foster parents and would make an ideal exercise partner if you’ve made getting into shape your New Years resolution.
While I am a pretty laid back and independent girl (I can occupy myself when you go to work!), I also bond with humans, and can follow you around the house if given the option! I also really enjoy the company of the ‘man of the house’. When you’re home I like to lay beside you on the couch, sleep in the big bed (if you allow me) and keep guard of the house. My current residence is a condo however I tend to bark when people are in the hallway so a single family dwelling is probably best for me. Did I mention I know how to sit and lay down, especially if there is a reward!
My foster mom says I am a friendly, fun loving pup; sometimes strangers make me nervous and I will bark but I am working on this insecurity and when this happens, my foster mom reminds me of my manners and I am able to calm down and sit. Having never lived with another canine and never being properly socialized with other dogs, I am easily intimidated by some dogs. I am looking for a child-free home with a patient and understanding owner.
I do have a lot to offer to the experienced dachshund owner – let’s meet and see how quickly I can melt your heart!
